LU Farmers Market

Staying in town for Memorial Day Weekend? We are too! We’ll be at the Madison Street location this week and next. Come see us from 9:00 am until Noon. We have a lot to offer. And produce season is finally starting up, so there is even more local goodness available.

This weekend is the official start of grilling season! You will find pasture-raised beef, pork, and eggs. Chicken will be arriving in a few weeks. Invermos Valley Farms will have grilling specials this weekend for your Memorial Day celebrations.

Spring produce is available – Lettuce is in full force, so pick some up! Look for green onions, leafy greens – Swiss chard and kale, cauliflower, herbs and more.  The Rothoves will have tomatoes and cucumbers from their high tunnels. I had my first BLT last week – with all local items from our market. I was kind of in shock… but, it was a good kind of shock. Tomatoes. From Westphalia. In May. Awesome.

You know we have the baked goods! There are cookies, pies, and freshly-milled grains turned into tasty breads. Mae Benson has some really tasty pre-baked pizza crusts. Hugh Flowers has tamales – pork, chicken, or cheese. Pick up a cup of coffee from Bare Knuckle Roasters or a bag of fair-trade coffee from Three Story Coffee to go with all that baked goodness.

There will be local honey, jams and jellies, handmade soaps and crafts. Besides, the great local honey, the Kauffmans at Honeysuckle Acres make several body care products. People have been talking lately about the totally natural deodorant powder. Also the lip and body balms are pretty special.

Our Thursday Market kicks off next Thursday, May 29, 4:30 to 6:30, in our new Thursday location Downtown. That’s right! Thursday nights we will be downtown on Madison Street next to the Governor’s Mansion. We’ll have a special post next week, so stay tuned. Come see us after work and before Thursday Night Live and pick up a few local goodies to take home.
